Khon mask from Thailand

When I was in Thailand, the Khon mask has been always facinated me. Khon is a genre of dance, drama from Thailand that enacts the story of the Ramakien, a uniquely Thai version of the Ramayana, the Indian epic with its tale of gods and demons. The Khon Mask is part of the ornate glittering costume and is made of paper-mache which takes about 10 days to make. A mask is made of up to 20 layers of rice paper or special handmade tissue -thin paper. After the paper layers are dried the finishing decorations is applied, using paint, lacquer, gold leaf shell, and colored glass fragments.
